Free form, improvisational Jazz at it's Best.
Hiding away on an unassuming block about a 10-minute walk east from the Cermak/Chinatown L, and tucked between what seems to be rotating fast food franchises, The Velvet Lounge provides jazz fans with some of the best noise in town. Jazz legend, and AACM founding father, Fred Anderson opened this club in 1982 and still plays his sax on occasion for rapt crowds, though you?ll mostly hear musicians on the rise. You can check out the Lounge?s monthly schedule on its Web site:www.velvetlounge.net Where on the 'photos' page you'll find a pic of yours truly and Fred.
Sunday's Jazz Jam provides young talent with a stage where they can show off their skills. If you?re a jazz novice but want to get educated, go out and buy one (or all) of Anderson?s 14 recently re-released CDs, and learn from the master. You can also download a track from each of the albums from the Web sites "Music" page. Bring lots of friends. - Unsubscribed , posted 10/28/05
